Working experience:

Before our candidate decides to start his study, tropical Agricultural, he works in a kibbutz in Israel, during this period he has his first experience with (tropical) Horticulture/Agriculture. It is here that he gets the passion for his profession!
He starts his career of in the Tobacco Industry, as Leaf Manager for a small Tobacco company in southern Germany. After 2 years he moves to a well established international leaf tobacco merchant based in Bremen, to source the famous Indonesian cigar tobacco for customers in the European Cigar industry. This same company asks him to travel to Indonesia for a couple of years to advice and oversee their joint venture project of wrapper production in Java. The production is in good hands by the Indonesian Managers, but guidance is necessary in the drying/fermenting process, Quality and Quantity issues and the introduction of safety, social and environmental programs. Further more is keeping overview and being the mediator between the local contacts and the mother company in Germany a major part of his task.
As the approach of the world towards the Tobacco industry is changing, he decides to make a move and starts as Sourcing Specialist and Purchaser at an herbs & spices distributor in the Netherlands. He focuses on a long term planning for the sourcing (where, how much, what quality and when available) and purchasing (against which price, demand and quantity) of herbs and spices like garlic, ginger, cassia, nutmeg, cardamom & cloves.

2008 - present
Company: Supplier of herbs, spices, seasonings, marinades, sauces and other flavourings, The Netherlands
Function: Sourcing Specialist and Purchaser
Responsibilities:
- Strategic purchasing of herbs and spices of tropical origin, conform quality regulations, in relation to quantities, purchase conditions, price. 
- Personal turnover of approx. € 4 million per year.
- Formulate and implement the companies sourcing and purchasing policy.
- Initiate sourcing programs to enhance better or improve quality & quantity.
- Research into the global market and price developments of herbs & spices, to ensure accurate reaction onto the market situation.
- Sourcing of herbs and spices, selection of new suppliers (in country of origin), sourcing new reliable producers/suppliers sometimes for adequate alternatives in tropical countries (countries of origin).
- Initiate and maintain contacts in different production regions evaluate the delivery performance, carry out audits, etc.
- Updating purchasing files in the ERP-system.
- Member of the multidisciplinary Key Account Team as technical-purchase specialist.

1998 - 2008
Company: Tobacco merchant and producer, Germany/ Indonesia
Function: Project Manager Tobacco Production
Responsibilities:
- Management of approx. 200 ha (cigar) wrapper production and the drying- and fermenting process at the joint venture in Java/Indonesia.
- Initiate, set up and manage projects to improve the production, the drying process and reduction of the harmful chemical residues.
- Organise sampling for residue research coming from agro-chemical use, soil or environment. Analyse research results and exchange this information with producers and suppliers.
- Initiate and implement Health & Safety regulations, like effective agrochemical use, employee safety, etc.
- Implement and manage all relevant safety, social and environmental programs (like EHS & GAP) concerned in the partner companies in Indonesia.
- Manage/supervise local managers.
- Maintain contacts with clients, producers, specialists and other general relations in the region.

1996 - 1998
Company: Tobacco merchant, Germany
Function: Leaf Manager / Tobacco Purchaser
Responsibilities:
- Purchasing German flue cured and dark air cured tobacco at 3 cooperatives in southern Germany.
- Handling of incoming cigar filler production orders, planning and management of orders and supervising production in a tobacco processing plant in eastern Germany. Inclusive all related logistic and financial issues concerned with clients.
- Logistics and management of expanded tobacco stems production in Slovakia
- Maintain and increase the client relationships.

1994 (6 month)
Company: Tobacco Association, Zambia
Function: Junior project manager (Practical Training – Thesis)
Responsibilities:
- Direct and advice approx. 40 contract growers of ” Flue Cured Virginia” tobacco.
- Assist with the management of 25-30 employees on 2 separate production locations in the south of Zambia
 

Personality:

Our candidate is a calm and overseeing professional. He will start with observing and asking questions which will be followed with an analytical interpretation and a creative (short or long term) plan of approach.
He is an independent working and functioning personality, who is enjoying teamwork where necessary or applicable. Discipline and organization are part of his working methods; he likes to work together with groups and is capable to motivate the group members for his excellent ideas.

Our candidate has a creative mind, will come up with innovative ideas to solve problems or to continue the company’s policy. Luckily he has a good developed critical way of appraising his own ideas! A challenging and some what ‘irritating’ environment is a stimulus for his abilities. He likes to finish what he has started in the best manner possible, keeping in mind cultural differences, long term goals for the company and his own expertise or network to knowledge.

Our Candidate is looking for a new challenge preferable a combination of sourcing, purchasing and production. His expertise and knowledge are in the fields of the tobacco and/or the Herbs & Spices, but he is willing to take on challenges in outdoor vegetable production or other related areas.
