Working experience:

Our candidate is a passionate professional in the Horticultural world with a sound educational background. He was born and raised on his parental horticultural company. Till early 2007 he owned his own company in chrysanthemum cut flowers and cuttings in the Netherlands, giving him a very solid background in all aspects of the industry. Although his background gives him enough foundation to independently manage a company, his heart is more on the propagation, production, post harvest and quality side of the business. He is a self starter with the ability to adapt to different circumstances, both professionally as well as personally. One of his specialties is dealing with soil and soil growing in general, especially the preparation, disinfecting and improving of the soil. He is an ambitious, goal oriented person who developed a passion for Africa and by now is used to dealing with a large number of employees. He is confident in his dealings with local staff and is able to bring them to a higher level. There are no secrets for him when it comes to dealing with chrysanthemums or the growing thereof. Other familiar crops are Delphinium, Dianthus and Veronica.

perennials (due to a restructuring of the mother company, his position is uncertain)

- Climate control Mother Stock department
- Soil and bed preparation mother plants (inclusive of disinfection)
- Planting department (planting, cleaning, weeding and supporting plants)
- Pest management (control, spraying, disinfection, etc)
- Irrigation and fertigation
- Compost department – all activities in relation to compost purposes
- Wood production for compost department (wood field of 25 ha.)
- Supervision of supervisors (4)
- Managing 100 employees
- Internal logistical systems

Personality:

Our candidate has a passion for flowers and the people working in the industry. He considers himself as a pleasant and social person. Looking for new challenges and opportunities he ended up in Ethiopia which changed his life to the point that he doesn’t want to leave Africa. He has the ability to motivate people from different levels. He always gives himself 100% to the tasks at hand, likes to work in teams and enjoys bringing the local staff up to a higher level. He is patient, stable and consistent but will never lose track of the final goal. He has no problem in dealing with the social isolation as a result of remote locations. He builds up a local social network quite easily. He states that Horticulture is a lifestyle rather than a position. His personal credo is: “No victory without fighting”.
